HALL OF FAME: Larry Zahnd

INDUCTED JANUARY 29TH, 2023

Hall of Famer "Larry Zahnd" in the grandstands at Indy for NHRA Bracket Finals

Larry Zahnd had been a part of CCD History from the late 60's and a lifelong resident of the area, probably starting with his Hot Rodding like so many others by cruising the Steak 'n' Shake and streets of Champaign and the surrounding area until finding his way to local Drag Strips of Illinois. As long as we've known him it’s always been in a Chevrolet Nova, with a couple of different versions of the "Mini Beefer" along with the one he drives now and a small stint in a S-10. A very mild-mannered giant of a man, he learned firsthand just a couple of years back how much he is cared for and respected after an exhausting social media onslaught found his beloved now streetcar located after law enforcement leads had found nothing after it had been stolen from his home! He has raced off and on at CCD for years, sometimes a weekend warrior, sometimes a part time racer, and became a Quick 8 Series Champion in 2021.

His wife always by his side, his sons have raced with him, and now his grandson Tucker is a third-generation racer in a Jr. Dragster. Recently they purchased another Jr. for his other grandson Tanner with the Zahnd Racing Team growing even more. Now he can add to his resume "Hall of Famer".
